I had never heard of "love locks" until today.

While I was crossing over the 364 bridge, above the Missouri River, I noticed an occasional padlock secured to the fence that runs alongside the hiking/biking path. The locks increased in frequency until I discovered a large collection of them midway through the crossover. A small bump out with a bench was created so you can sit and watch the river flow below. In this section of fencing, people have placed "love locks" of all shapes and sizes.

A little bit of research revealed that this is part of a worldwide phenomenon where couples profess their love for each other by writing their names and a memorable date on a lock, then attach it to a fence and lock it into history. Some go so far as to throw the key over the fence and into the river as a symbolic way of securing their bond.

It's an interesting concept, a trendy event, and a photographic opportunity.
